We recommend you use your mobile phone to take a picture of:
1) Your Blue Cross NC member ID card (front and back)
2) The emergency instructions listed below
What to do in the event of an emergency
Take these steps when you have a medical emergency:
- Go immediately to the nearest physician or hospital.
- When you're safe, then call GeoBlue (toll free) at: 1-855-445-1301.
The GeoBlue Global Service Center is here 24 / 7 / 365 to support members experiencing medical emergencies.
Student members in need of life-saving medical intervention will be treated at the nearest appropriate medical facility.
The GeoBlue medical assistance team will contact your treating physician and closely monitor your case to determine if medical evacuation is necessary.
Note: GeoBlue coordinates emergency services with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) strategic resources located around the world.
When you call GeoBlue, be prepared to give the following information:
- The insured person’s name. (This is the Subscriber Name on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card and could be a student or a parent.)
- The insured person’s ID number. (This is the Subscriber ID on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card).
- The name of your GeoBlue program: "Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina NC MERE Companion."
- The name of your Blue Cross NC health plan. (Find it on the front of your Blue Cross NC member ID card at the top.)
- The name of your school.
- Detailed information about the nature of the emergency.
- The name and contact details for the treating physician and / or hospital, if applicable.
- The insured / injured person’s specific location within the country you're visiting. Use your phone's GPS if available.

Important: Use of these benefits must be coordinated and approved by GeoBlue.
