Student Blue members, you can opt in to receive helpful text messages and alerts about your health plan. Find out why we send them and how to opt out.

Terms and conditions for Student Blue members

 

Student Blue sends text message updates about your health plan enrollment and waivers from short code: 78624. Look for this code at the top of your mobile device.

 

By entering your mobile phone number(s) in Student Blue and successfully activating automated text alerts / messages (for clarity, referred to as “text messages” throughout these Terms and Conditions*) in your account, you acknowledge and represent to Blue Cross NC that you are the current wireless service plan subscriber and/or an authorized user of the mobile phone number(s) that you link to (sign up to receive) the text alert / messages service, or you have been granted permission by the wireless service plan subscriber and/or authorized user of the mobile phone number(s) to enroll the mobile phone number(s) in the service.

You grant Blue Cross NC express permission to send automated text messages to the enrolled mobile phone number(s) through your wireless service carrier unless and until such permission is revoked in accordance with these Terms and conditions; and

By granting such permission to Blue Cross NC, you are hereby requesting to receive text messages in spite of the fact that your mobile phone number(s) may otherwise be on the federal, or state Do Not Call List and you agree that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, your request overrides any prior Do Not Call request for or related to Student Blue. You are not required to agree to receipt of text messages in order to purchase any product or service from Blue Cross NC. Blue Cross NC is committed to building user trust and confidence by promoting and complying with the use of business practices that help protect the privacy and the security of the customer and their data.

How to start or stop receiving texts from Student Blue

To opt in and start receiving text messages from Student Blue:

  1. Log in to your Student Blue account.
  2. Click My Profile (it’s the gear icon at the top right on Student Blue).
  3. Find the mobile device number you want to change permissions for.
  4. Click the drop-down menu next to the number.
  5. Click Yes to start receiving SMS text messages.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Text messages can be canceled at any time. To cancel, follow the instructions to opt out.

 

You agree that your express consent to receive text messages shall continue indefinitely unless and until you cancel your express consent.

To opt out and stop receiving text messages from Student Blue:

Reply STOP to the text message you received from Student Blue, or you can: 

  1. Log in to your Student Blue account.
  2. Click My Profile (it’s the gear icon at the top right on Student Blue).
  3. Find the mobile device number you want to change permissions for.
  4. Click the drop-down menu next to the number.
  5. Click No to stop receiving SMS text messages.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Note: With either of these methods, you’ll receive 1 final confirmation text message from Blue Cross NC saying you will no longer receive text messages from short code: 78624.

 

If you change your preferences through Student Blue as described above, it may take up to 72 hours for your change to take effect. During this 72-hour period, you may receive additional text messages from Blue Cross NC.

Frequently asked questions

If you have "opted in" or given your permission to get text messages from Student Blue and you no longer want to get them, you can:

  1. Reply "STOP" to any text message from Student Blue or
  2. Log in to Student Blue, and:
    • Click My Profile (it's the gear icon, top right in Student Blue)
    • Find the mobile device number you want to change permissions for
    • Open the drop-down menu next to the number, then click No to Stop getting SMS texts
    • Click Save changes

SMS stands for Short Message Service. It's the technical name for a text message, text or TXT sent to and from a mobile device.

When you opt in, or give your permission to get text messages, we'll only send you the information and updates you asked for, and only after we get a double confirmation from you when you reply to the first text we send.

Generally, you'll get short messages asking you to reply with a "YES" or "STOP" to let us know you've received an alert or a link to more information on our website.

Note: If you "opt out," or ask to stop getting text messages from Student Blue,  it may take up to 72 hours to remove you from our send list.

It's a 5-digit number you'll see in the Messages list on your mobile device.

Instead of seeing a message form Blue Cross NC in your list, you'll see a message from our number short code number: 78624.
